Apple cake

Apple cake! I love this recipe because it's so easy to put together all the ingredients and a delicious  dessert which you can prepare beforehand!  You can serve it warm with whipped cream or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream.

Serves: 6


  • 2 sweet baking apples( Fuji or Golden delight)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 2/3 cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp Orange zest
  • ¼ tsp Nutmeg powder


  1. Preheat your oven 350 F or 180 C in convection or 160 C in Fan forced and grease a 9 inch  round cake pan with some butter or nonstick spray, place a baking sheet on it and set aside.
  2. Add  Sugar and butter in a mixing bowl, and cream the mixture with a hand blender or stand mixer with paddle attachment or with a fork until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the  eggs one at a time , beat and scrape the side of the bowl.
  4. Add vanilla, nutmeg, and orange zest and give a quick mix. If the mixture looks grainy at this stage don’t worry.
  5. Place a sieve over the mixing bowl and transfer flour, salt and baking powder to the sieve and shake it.
  6. Sprinkle about one tablespoon of flour to the apple and toss them to coat.
  7. Add in apple to the batter and fold everything together. If the batter is very thick, you might need few tablespoons of milk.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35  to 40 minutes or until golden and cooked through.
  9. Allow the cake to  cool completely, invert on a plate and turn one more time.
  10. Sprinkle powdered sugar and enjoy!


I know apple, cinnamon, and lemon  zest is a very popular and  traditional flavor combination, I love that too! so if you want to use  a popular flavor combination  instead of orange zest and nutmeg ( add nutmeg powder to the mixture)   which I am adding now, you can add cinnamon and lemon zest.
