Kacha Golla Sandesh



  • 1200 gm whole chicken cut into pieces
  • 2 medium size Onion(approx. 100- 120 gm) sliced
  • 1 medium size  tomato chopped
  • 2-3 hard-boiled egg
  • 6-8 baby potatoes

For marinade:

  • 2 tsp ginger paste
  • 2 ½ tsp garlic paste
  • 1/3  cup of plain beaten yogurt
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • For tempering:
  • 3-4 whole dry red chillies
  • 10 whole black pepper
  • 8-10 curry leaves
  • 5-6 tbsp. mustard oil for cooking

For seasoning:

  • ½ tsp regular garam masala
  • Salt to taste


  1. In a mixing bowl add chicken, all spices, and  about 1 tbsp. mustard oil, mix well, cover with the lid and put it into the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, it tastes best if marinate the Chicken for overnight.
  2. In a heavy duty pan over medium to medium-high heat, heat some oil.
  3. Marinate baby potatoes with salt and turmeric powder, add them into the hot oil and over medium heat cook for a few minutes until potatoes turn into golden colour, remove from oil.
  4. Temper the oil with black pepper, dry red chillies, and curry leaves.
  5. Add sliced onion, salt and cook for few minutes, until onions turn into pink colour, then remove from oil and transfer on a plate.
  6. Add marinated chicken into the same hot pan, add salt to taste and some water, cover with the lid and over high heat bring to boil.
  7. Reduce heat to medium-low, add fried potatoes allow to simmer for at least 15 minutes.
  8. Add garam masala, fried onion, stir well, cover with lid,  cook further for 5-7 minutes or until chicken cooked through.
  9. Remove from heat and give 10 to 15 minutes standing time.
  10. When you serve the dish don't forget to serve the hard boiled eggs too!
