Tomato khejur amsatta chutney

Bengali Tomato Date Mango bar chutney recipe 


  • 3 big tomatoes chopped
  • 10-12 dates chopped
  • ¼ cup mango papad/mango bar (sweet one)
  • ¼ cup raisins
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • Few pinch salt just to balance the taste
  • Few pinches turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp oil (I used mustard oil, you can use vegetable or canola oil)
  • For tempering : ½ tsp mix of following ingredients in equal portion
    • Few pinches black mustard seeds
    • Few pinches fennel
    • Few pinches fenugreek


  1. Heat oil in a non-stick saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add tempering and stir for few seconds to release the aroma from whole spices.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes, add salt, turmeric powder and mix well, cover with a lid and allow it to cook over low heat for about 5-7 minutes or until tomatoes become soft.
  4. Add sugar, mix well and increase the heat from low to medium.
  5. When sugar dissolves, add chopped dates and cook for few seconds, about 10 -15 seconds.
  6. Add raisins and mango papad, mix well and cook for few minutes to get a sticky texture.
  7. Turn off the heat, cover with a lid and let it cool.

Serve at room temperature.
