Prawn pakora

Crispy Prawn Pakora or Indian style prawn fritters are the absolute crowd pleaser or tea time snacks, these crispy fritters taste like you are munching something naughty, but they packed with flavour. A hot cup of tea or coffee and two or three Prawn Pakoras make the perfect combination for your Tea Party.

This dish is a very simple recipe for delicious starters. It only takes a few minutes to make the batter, and luckily you can use the same recipe to make a starter for your vegetarian guest, all you have to do is just save some batter before you add the prawns.

Since the festive season is around the corner and if you are hosting a party first time, you can make this simple yet delicious fritters for your guest.


  • 200 gm Prawn(approx 35 prawns)
  • 1 cup semolina
  • ½  cup curd
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • ½ Tsp chili flakes
  • ⅛ Tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup Chopped onion
  • 5-6 chopped  Green chilies
  • 10-12  Curry leaves torn
  • Handful of chopped coriander leave
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying
  • ¾ cup of water


  1. Add enough oil in the Kadai/Cooking skillet/Dutch oven for deep frying; over medium- high heat the oil.
  2. To make the batter, in a mixing bowl, mix together, semolina, beaten curd, salt, onion, ginger paste and chili flakes, curry leaves, green chilies, and water.
  3. Cover with a lid and keep it aside for about 10 -15 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle salt and pepper to the Prawns.
  5. Add the Prawns and chopped coriander leaves and give a gentle mix.
  6. Add baking soda and fold into the prawn mixture.
  7. Using a small spoon drop little spoonful of mixture to the oil, make sure do not overcrowd the pan.
  8. Let them cook for a few minutes, about 4-5 minutes, making sure to flip them around until deeply golden brown.
  9. With the help of a slotted spoon transfer the prawns to a tray lined with paper towel.Repeat, in batches, with the remaining batter.
